Murudeshwar

Description

Murudeshwar is home to the second biggest statue of Lord Shiva in the world. It is situated at a distance of 2 km from the railway station. The height of the statue is about 123 feet. The statue is surrounded by Arabian Sea on its three sides.

One can start exploring Murudeshwar with this place first. It was built by Shivamogga's Kashinath and other sculptors. The cost of building was around 50 million Rs and was funded by Mr R. N. Shetty. It took two years to build it. The life size statues of God's and demons around the Shiva Statue are also worth seeing. The sun chariot, Geetopadesha and the Lord Ganesh sculpture dot the landscape of the Kanduka Hill.

The idol is designed in a way that it gets the sunlight directly and thus appears sparkling. The statue is beside the temple of Shiva.
